Happy Family Literacy Day!!!

Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Take 20 minutes to make learning together part of your everyday. www.familyliteracyday.ca

ABC created a list of 20 activities to promote Family Literacy. Number 3 on their list is- Pop-up Kitchen: Follow a recipe together- a yummy way to practice math and reading. We took that one step further and picked a book that had a food theme, and could be read to or with a large age range: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. As you read this chapter book there are so many chocolate Pop-up Kitchen ideas that can be done such as making Whoopie Pies, doing a chocolate fondue or baking a chocolate cake.

Number 1 on their list is to plan a day trip. The perfect day trip to accompany Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is to visit the Sweet Spot Chocolate Shop in Elmsdale and get your very own Golden Ticket Chocolate Bar in Dark, Milk or White Chocolate.
